What to do in case of

If you suspect that you may be suffering from a medical emergency, present to your nearest Hospital Emergency Department without delay. Ask a family member or friend to drive. Do not drive yourself.

If you are in too much distress or do not have any means of immediate transport, then phone the Ambulance Service. The ambulance will stabilize you en route to the Emergency Department.

The Emergency Department is the first and best portal for emergencies, as there is always an Emergency Doctor available to assess the patient, perform the necessary tests (i.e., ECG, X-rays) and upon making a diagnosis, institute appropriate treatment, such as oxygen, IV drip, medication.

Depending on the nature of the emergency, an appropriate specialist will be consulted. In case of a cardiac emergency, Vergelegen Mediclinic Hospital always has a Cardiologist available to immediately treat patients upon referral through the Emergency Department.

Please note that Emergency Departments give precedence to sicker patients.
